Germany Treppenhaus Jagschloss Granitz
Jagdschloss Granitz (Hunting Lodge) on Rügen is especially famous for its spectacular staircase: The cast-iron spiral staircase in the 38-meter-high tower was installed in 1845, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. With 154 intricately crafted, self-supporting steps winding up the inner wall, it is a masterpiece of Prussian ironwork, made by the Berlin foundry Egells. The staircase is the architectural highlight of the castle. Climbing it is an impressive experience and, at the top, visitors are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views over Rügen. Today, the castle is a popular museum and excursion destination.
