Burg Rheinstein is an impressive castle built high (270 feet) above the Rhine about a half an hour or so south of Bacharach.

You must hike the steep switchback path and there is a nominal admission to gain entry, but you are free to roam at will and my tripod was allowed.

No, it was taken handheld from inside the castle itself. This location is on top of a hill, that has a switchback path leading up. Nominal entry fee, but when I was there, we had the place to ourselves, and thus had freedom to roam as we pleased. There is a small car park located nearby.
