This rooftop offers one of the best views over the capital Berlin with the Spree in the foreground and the famous Television Tower of Berlin in the Background. It's also one of the best spots to photograph during thunderstorms, because the Television Tower is a lightning arrester.

Photography Tips

The balcony with this view is on every level of the building with 20th floor being the highest, but not necessarily the best one. If you are using a wide angle lens, which is definitely recommended, it's even better to get to the 16th floor, because it's important to take the photo as horizontal as possible to prevent the Television Tower from tilting. Another solution for this issue are of course tilt shift lenses.

Travel Information

The address for this spot is "Fischerinsel 1, 10179 Berlin". You can reach the balcony by going up with the elevator to one of the upper floors and looking for the stairs (emergency exit) there. The spot itself is not public and I wouldn't recommend to ring somewhere and disturb the people that are living there. The best way to get inside is just by following somebody else who is entering or leaving the building. Just make sure though to stay calm and don't misuse this great opportunity to get one of the best views over Berlin!

Parking is available right in front of the building and costs 1€ / hour.

I tried this during my visit to Berlin, thanks a lot for the detailed instructions! I must say that neighbors were very good sports about the whole thing, and didn't care that I squeezed in after one of them came back from groceries XD

Manuel, I would like to thank you for your precise description, I had today the most gorgeous colors in the sky, and following your instructions the "operation" turned a piece of cake. I may add a small correction: the building has 17 floors and as you enter the ground floor gallery, there are two elevators: the one on the right that takes you on all uneven numbers until the 17th floor and the left hand side which take you on all even numbers until the 16th floor. If you got by mistake the elevator to the 17th floor, just take the staircase to the 16th. Now seeing your image Manuel, I don't think I can come up with anything as close to perfection as yours so I will spare you the agony :-)

Hi, I´m heading to Berlin next month and I would like to know if this spot continue being "available" for photographers. Also, I would like to know if it is easy to enter, I mean, i´m shy and I wouldn´t like to enter with someone who lives there that could tell me something bad about being there. Thanks, Luis.

There's a same white van that is parked at the same location under the bridge to the right of the picture. Fact of the day ;)

Nice, Sebastian. I saw that view a couple of times and always wondered from which building it was shot. Could be a bit more precise on which kind of building that is and how to get to that public balcony? Thanks a lot! :-)

Thank you very much Daniel for your details. I've added them to this spot so that they are easier to find for others. Feel free to add your photo to this spot if you also have one by just clicking the upload icon at the current spot image.

Sorry, not trying to be nitpicky but this balcony is definitely NOT public :) It is used by the public quite a lot but to get inside the building you have to ring someone or be lucky (like me) somebody comes out the door. I always wonder how 2 photographers will do up there. The balcony is so small and leaves only little space to get the whole view.

Yes, correct, the place is not public and the balcony is small, probably too small for two serious tripods.

Manuel Becker 09.03.2018
I've been there yesterday and two tripods are definitely fine and worked out well. Three might be too much, but since this is not just one balcony but one on every level, this is usually no problem. But I agree to Andreas of course... it's definitely not public and I wouldn't recommend to ring somewhere and disturb the people that are living there. The best way to get inside is just by following somebody else who is entering or leaving the building. Just make sure though to stay calm and don't misuse this great opportunity to get one of the best views over Berlin!

Oh awesome, I am already curious about your results. Are you at Photokina in Cologne as well? Have a great time in Germany and if you have any questions about the country feel free to write me at any time. It's the very least that I can do for you! :)

I'll only be in Berlin for the Innotrans 2018 for 3 nights only unfortunately.
