Germany Pillnitz Castle, Dresden
Pillnitz Castle is the former summer residence of the Saxonian kings. It consists of three main buildings grouped around a Baroque garden and is surrounded by a park. The photo shows the waterfront palace which is located right on the banks of the River Elbe with a staircase leading down to the river.
Photography Tips
The castle features different architectural styles. The Chinoiserie elements of the waterfront palace as well as the upper palace are well worth a closer look as are the sculptures, the garden and the other buildings in the park. You can take great photos at any time of day of different parts of the palace. Personally, I find the waterfront with River Elbe the most beautiful and most characteristic side of the palace.
Travel Information
You can travel by car or bus to Pillnitz on the Northern bank of River Elbe to visit the palace and park. To reach the spot where this photo was taken, you then need to take the small ferry across the river. You can also travel by car or tram to Kleinzschachwitz on the Southern bank to immediately get to this spot. Another option is to take a boat (the Sächsische Dampfschifffahrt) that runs from Dresden to the Czech border and back.
