Germany Harz narrow gauge railroad in the Thumkuhlental
At the old loading point in the Thumkuhlental valley, you can take good photos of the Harz narrow-gauge railway. After a slight curve, a long straight line follows. The railway makes a lot of steam and smoke on the ascent. It's ideal when it comes out of the dense forest. At the spot, you have the opportunity to sit comfortably on a covered wooden bench while you wait for the train.
Photography Tips
I always recommend photographing the train going up, because then it smokes a lot. It's simply a more beautiful motif. Be sure to take a telephoto lens with you! It is also very helpful to print out the HSB timetable beforehand. Tip: The previous stop is Steinerne Renne (timetable).
Travel Information
Good way to get there. Exit Wernigerode in the direction of Schierke on the L100. After approx. 1km turn right onto Thumkuhlenstraße and after 100m you have the option of parking (free of charge). Then continue on foot. After 15-20min you will reach the railway bridge. Behind it, turn right and you are there. Good luck!
