Iceland Hafrafell - The Undiscovered Mountain of the North
If you're ever visiting the north of Iceland and are looking to capture a fine mountain without hundreds of tourists in your frame, then Hafrafell is definitely worth your time. Off the beaten path, yet easy to find and very accessible from a rural country road. In winter though, that's a different story.
Photography Tips
The challenging part here is to find a foreground that's interesting, yet simple enough. A small body of water works well, especially when it's reflecting the northern lights.
Travel Information
If you are staying in or around Varmahlid, drive northeast following the 76 to Hofsós/Holár. Turn onto the 767 and follow the signs for Reykir. The road becomes smaller and smaller, eventually leading onto a pasture with a small river slicing through it. Can't miss it.
Note that there are more mountains called "Hafrafell" in Iceland. This mountain here is not the most popular mountain bearing that name!
