Iceland Landmannaleid F225 to Landmannalaugar

The Landmannaleid F225 is a gravel road to Landmannalaugar in the south of Iceland. If you have a good 4x4 car this is definitely a really nice trip with many beautiful views and rivers you have to cross with your car. This also means, that this road is amazing by day, but can be dangerous during the dark night.

If possible you should stop as often as it makes sense to you. Especially the time during sunset was my favorite one when the fog started to flow into the valley. But keep in mind that I would only recommend that if you have the chance to sleep in your car or if you have a tent with you. Don't make the mistake and underestimate the rivers you may have to cross. Especially one of them was pretty deep and you don't want your car to lose traction in the middle of the river when the night comes in.

You must (!) have a good 4x4 car for that road and you still should be very cautious about the gravel road and the rivers you may have to cross. If you don't do this often I would recommend you to stop your car in front of them, look for a good route through it and drive slowly, but without stopping the way you selected. Important is, that the way anybody else drove isn't always the best route because the rivers are changing constantly.
