Vast moss covered lava fields are found all over Iceland. This one is located near Kirkjubæjarklaustur Village in South Iceland. Take care not to walk or step on the moss covered volcanic rock. The thick moss is very fragile and can be easily torn. Once damaged, it can take years to recover. Stick to the roads or established trails.

From the roundabout at the intersection of roads, 203, 205, and 1 near Stjórnafoss, drive south on Ring Road 1 for 9.8km to the parking area.
