Iceland Glacier road, Vatnajökull Nationalpark
This part of Iceland's ring route takes you to stunning glaciers and lagoons. At this exact location, you can combine a road with a glacier in one image, which is an excellent composition! Make sure to visit the glacier lagoons as well!
Photography Tips
It would be best to use your tele-zoom lens here to compress the glacier in the background better. The road looks like it leads straight into it because of the small hill it has to climb. Wait for a car for a fantastic composition but be careful since you have to stand on the road for this photo. It would be good to have a second person watching your back! Sunrise is a good chance to get some morning light on the glacier itself.
Travel Information
You can park your car in the small parking lot that I have marked on the map, which has minimal spaces. There are a few other options free of charge before reaching the famous glacier lagoon. I would also suggest checking www.safetravel.is when travelling in Iceland since weather and road conditions can change quickly. Be careful and don't block the only road in this area once it gets busy. Icelandic police don't like people stopping on the road. I took this photo in late July (sunrise is at 3 a.m.) so nobody was around and I hurried up.
