Iceland Goðafoss Waterfall at river level, Iceland
Goðafoss is located in the municipality of Þingeyjarsveit in the north-east of the country near the beginning of the Sprengisandur highland track within sight of the Ring Road. To the east of Goðafoss lies the town of Laugar.
The water of the Skjálfandafljót falls in a wide arc about 11 m into the depths over a width of 158 m, interrupted by three rocks. The amount of water rushing down here is very impressive!

Photography Tips
I tried to get close to the waterfall by following the river upstream. Especially in winter, you can capture beautiful colors and a lot of ice! Bring some spikes since you have to walk over some slippery rocks!
Travel Information
You can park your car at the Goðafoss East Bank parking lot. The last time I visited (winter 2024). From here you can cross a bridge and see the other side of the river. The parking lot on this site is not free of charge and might be closed during winter.
