Hiking on Reynisfjall is a beautiful alternativ to the famous Reynisfjara Beach with its offshore sea stacks, cause its never overcrowded. The high plateau offers you a versatile opportunity to discover this well-known corner of southern Iceland in a different way.

Photography Tips

An open aperture from a low perspective gives you a little more dynamic in the picture. Place a person for scale and to get a realistic idea how wide the landscape is.

Travel Information

From Vik, you can walk up to the plateau along a well-maintained road. From there, you have every freedom to explore the area. There are rarely any hikers up there and you won't see any cars. For years, the road has been closed to cars with a barrier, so you have to hike. One way takes about 4-5 kilometers (depends on your chosen hiking trail) with a good 200 meters of altitude. Watch out for the wind, you are completely at the mercy of it at the top.
