Iceland Black beaches from Reynisfjall, Vik
Hiking on Reynisfjall is a beautiful hiking alternativ near Vik, cause its never overcrowded. The high plateau offers you a versatile opportunity to discover this well-known corner of southern Iceland in a different way.
Photography Tips
The location is better suited to photographing the black beach than, for example, the well-known lighthouse close by, as there are no barriers here. With a telephoto lens and your own deep perspective, you can hide Vik so that you only have the long black beach as a background perspective.
Travel Information
From Vik, you can walk up to the plateau along a well-maintained road. From there, you have every freedom to explore the area. There are rarely any hikers up there and you won't see any cars. For years, the road has been closed to cars with a barrier, so you have to hike. One way takes about 4 kilometers (depends on your chosen hiking trail) with a good 200 meters of altitude. Watch out for the wind, you are completely at the mercy of it at the top.
