This remote spot is an interesting place, because this glacier was initiating the massive flood when Eyjafjallajökull erupted some years ago. The glacier flows down from a very steep mountain.

Photography Tips

During noon (and only from spring to fall) you will have the sun behind the glacier. Can be an interesting composition. Don't approach the glacier too close. Ice can break off there. Also don't enter the ice caves without a professional guide.

Travel Information

Getting here can be challenging: You can either hike from the F249 road (which already needs a 4x4 (better no Dacia Duster!) or you go to the pinned parking lot, but that definitely needs a good 4x4 (river crossing). I came here with a Superjeep on a tour. From the parking lot it is just a 5 minute hike.
