Iceland Solheimasandur Plance Wreck from the side
The DC-3 wreck at Sólheimasandur is the haunting remains of a U.S. Navy plane that crashed on Iceland’s black sand beach in 1973. Stripped of its parts and left behind, the skeleton of the aircraft has become a striking, surreal landmark in the middle of an empty, windswept landscape. The wreck, with its exposed metal and eerie solitude, has drawn photographers and adventurers for years, offering a haunting glimpse into a moment frozen in time.
Photography Tips
To photograph the DC-3 wreck from the side, use a wide-angle lens to capture both the wreck and the surrounding landscape. Shoot during golden hour for dramatic lighting and long shadows. Experiment with composition by placing the wreck off-center and using the sand or horizon as a guide. Try low-angle shots for a more imposing view and focus on close-up details like rust and torn metal for texture. Keep the scene simple to highlight the wreck’s isolation.
