Iceland DC-3 Wreck site from inside, Sólheimasandur
The DC-3 wreck at Sólheimasandur is the haunting remains of a U.S. Navy plane that crashed on Iceland’s black sand beach in 1973. Stripped of its parts and left behind, the skeleton of the aircraft has become a striking, surreal landmark in the middle of an empty, windswept landscape. The wreck, with its exposed metal and eerie solitude, has drawn photographers and adventurers for years, offering a haunting glimpse into a moment frozen in time.
Photography Tips
Inside the wreck, use a wide-angle lens to capture the decaying details and textures, while taking advantage of natural light filtering in through the windows. Frame your shots through openings to add depth, experiment with low-angle perspectives to highlight the structure, and keep your gear steady to avoid blur in the dim light.
