The Markha trek leads through the Hemis National Park, which is a more or less protected area for rare animal and plant species. The 2 most important passes on the classic route are the Ganda La (4.900m) and the Kongmaru La (4.950m). In the Markha-Valley there are several smaller villages which are not yet connected to the road.
