India Toorji ka Jhalra
Toorji Ka Jhalra is one of 3 step wells in Jodhpur and was, until a few years ago, one of the city’s dumps. When it was cleared out, towards the bottom, they found a lot of ornate figure carving. It was built in the early 1700s by the consort/Queen to Maharaja Abhay Singh who came from the area North of Jaipur where the most ornate and complete step well site in India, Rani ki Vav, was also built by a Queen a thousand years ago.
Photography Tips
Standard to wide lens. Morning rather than late afternoon.
Travel Information
Walk or tuk-tuk there. It’s close to the centre of town and less than 100 metres from, Jhankar Choti-Haveli, which offers drinks and food in the court yard and amazing night views of the fort from the upper roof restaurant (excellent and reasonably priced beer – I stayed there).
