India Jama Masjid, Delhi
This great mosque of Old Delhi is the largest in India. It has a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees. Construction was begun in 1644 and completed in 1658. It is an example of the great architecture created during the Mughal period and is a blend of both Hindu and Mughal architectural styles. It was the final extravagance of Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor who built the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort. The highly decorative mosque has three great gates, four towers and two 40 metre high minarets constructed of red sandstone with vertical white marble accents.
Photography Tips
I hand held the camera. I'm not sure if a tripod would be allowed. Women must cover up - they provide shoulder to ankle coverings. A wide angle lens would be good. This photo: 1/1000, f5.6 ISO 200, 27mm equiv. f.l.
