Indonesia Heavenly Light at Jomblang Cave
Heavenly light from high above inside Jomblang Cave. Good spot to shoot for silhouettes.
Photography Tips
Tripod would be useful but be ready for the tripod to dip into the mud. Be prepared to shoot handheld. As you would rappel down the sinkhole with up to 80 paying participants and people will naturally block your shot. But wait at the end and the spot would be clear for you. Bring a torch as the guide will not wait for you if you fell behind and it would be hard for you to battle the mud out from the cave in the dark.
Travel Information
500k rupiah entry (around EUR32), which is a premium price to pay for locals. Departs from Yogya at 7.30 am, pay the entry fee, and wait for around an hour before descending to the bottom. Enter around 300 m inside the cave to reach the spot. Even on a dry season the cave was a muddy hell, so dont even think of coming here in rainy seasons. They provide you with a rubber booth so expect to come back up with mud as it is dark, wet, sticky, damp and slippery down there. You'll need kungfu, crane style to stay balanced and not slip! With these high pricing, they should cover the tracks with wood or bamboos pathways so people can stay dry and clean. Your feet can sink deep in the mud and get stuck in one spot. Remember to stay safe and not kill yourself for a selfie as there is no protective railing whatsoever around the spot. If you slip, you'll break a bone or worse Is it worth it? Yes, as you probably just want to do it only once. Just for the pic. Basic rice box for lunch is provided at the end of the trip.
