Indonesia Kawah Ijen Volcano
One of the two most impressive volcano mountain regions in all of Java. At night, you can see the blue flames down by the crater caused by burning sulfur. A crazy sight.
Photography Tips
For photographing the blue flames at night, make sure to use a lens with low aperture. Due to the toxic smoke you will have a hard time setting up a tripod somewhere as you also have to wear masks to cover your breath from the smoke. As for the sunrise spot, look for this small path leading down as it is the perfect leading line to place a person.
Travel Information
To get here, you most likely have to book a tour. We got picked up at hour hotel at midnight and were driven to the starting point of the hike. We started at around 1.30am as the main attraction here is seeing the blue flames during night and then head up a little more for watching the sunrise.
