Iran Naqsh-e Jahan Square, Isfahan
One of the largest open air plazas in the world, Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan has been the center of trade, culture and international diplomacy for hundreds of years. A UNESCO world heritage site whose name means "Image of the World". Cloistered arcades encircle the plaza filled with gardens and fountains. Golden-domed mosques and baroque palaces overlook the square and their exteriors and interiors feature some of the most intricate and beautiful calligraphic mosaics you will ever be likely to see. An awe-inspiring spot in one of Iran's most beautiful and cosmopolitan cities.
Photography Tips
The sunrise is the best time to go. At sunset the square is abuzz with activity. Men gather before the sunrise for calisthenics in the square and will likely be your only company until after the sun is up.
