This spot is not for the faint of heart, but it's truly emotional and stunning at the same time.

Tikrit, located in Iraq, has seen significant conflict during the Iraq War. In 2014, the city was captured by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) during their rapid expansion in the country. This resulted in intense fighting as Iraqi security forces, with the support of various militias and international allies, launched offensives to retake the city.

The Battle of Tikrit in 2015 was a major military operation aimed at liberating the city from ISIL control. Iraqi forces, including Shia militias and air support from the U.S.-led coalition, fought to reclaim the territory. After weeks of intense combat, the city was eventually recaptured in April 2015.

The war in Tikrit highlighted the complexities and challenges faced in battling extremist groups in urban areas. While Tikrit was eventually liberated, the conflict in Iraq continued beyond the recapture, with ongoing insurgency and political instability remaining key concerns in the region. It's essential to note that the situation may have evolved since then, and I recommend checking more recent sources for the latest developments in Tikrit and Iraq.

Photography Tips

Wide and long lenses are usefull, but never ever fly a drone here. There's lots of military here.

Travel Information

Well, I would say it's easy, but actually it isn't, if you don't wanna grab attention as a "tourist".
You usually could go there without any problem, as the area is freely accessible from nearly all sides, but I would avoid to act as an "action-photographer", as this is a highly sensitive and well oberserved area.

If you dare to go inside, you can easily park your car along the Basha Street, which is also basically the only place, where you can park your car a bit more public,

I do not have any information, if the area is cleared of mines, so be carefull or better ask a local with fully respect.
