Ireland Clonmacnoise Monastic Site

Clonmacnoise is a ruined monastery situated in County Offaly in Ireland on the River Shannon south of Athlone, founded in 544 by Saint CiarĂ¡n. Built-in Early Christian Ireland, Clonmacnoise with its perfectly preserved round towers and high crosses is a must-visit along Ireland's Ancient East.

Give yourself the day here. There is a multitude of shots to be got, from Round Towers (2), ancient Celtic high crosses, and a number of church ruins, so give yourself the time to explore this 6th-century site. Particularly beautiful at sunset (the sun sets over the river Shannon).
