The Dunlough Castle is a little hidden gem in West Cork and was built in 1207 which makes it one of the oldest Norman castles in southern Ireland, just sitting on top of Mizen Peninsula's incredible cliffs. The name 'Three Castle Head' refers to the castle's three towers still standing strong against the elements and time. The ruin itself is always worth a visit and a photo and there are plenty other good spots around it, including views over Dunmanus Bay, the Atlantic and a second lake you can see from the top of a hill near the castle.

Photography Tips

Depending on the time and weather conditions a tripod can be of good use and a CPL filter.
Other than that enjoy the view and look for different spots to photograph, there are plenty.

Travel Information

Parking is available (see marker on map), you'll have to pay a small fee for it.

If you want to visit the castle you have to know that you can only get there by foot via a small trail.
Starting at the parking spot, head towards the farm near it and you'll see the trail in the fields on the left side. The walk itself takes around 20-30mins.
Remember to close the gates on your way and to wear hiking boots as some parts are a bit steep and muddy after a rainy day. And of course have fun!
