Ireland Kylemore Abbey, Connemara

Kylemore Abbey is a historic Benedictine monastery in Connemara, Ireland, set against a stunning backdrop of mountains and Pollacapall Lough. Originally built in 1868 as a private home, it became an abbey in 1920 and is now home to a community of nuns. The estate features beautifully restored Victorian walled gardens, a neo-Gothic church, and scenic walking trails. Visitors are drawn to its fairytale-like architecture, peaceful surroundings, and rich history, making it one of Ireland’s most iconic landmarks.

Parking is easy as seen on the map here. Easy hike to the walled gardens which is best visited in the late spring and summer months. These photos were taken in early May with a light rain.
