Miramare Castle is a 19th-century castle on the Gulf of Trieste near Trieste, northeastern Italy. It was built from 1856 to 1860 for Austrian Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and his wife, Charlotte of Belgium, later Emperor Maximilian I and Empress Carlota of Mexico, based on a design by Carl Junker.

Photography Tips

A zoom lens is preferable (my focal length in this shot is 145mm).
Sunset hours are best as you get wonderful light on the bay.

Travel Information

The castle was shot from the balcony of Ristorante Le Terrazzecony which is a short walk from the castle up the cliffs. The restaurant can also be accessed through the Strada Costiera SS14 up the cliff.
