Probably one of the most photographed spots in Val D'Orcia. I had the luxury of residing right next to the spot so I could practically walk each morning up the road to photograph. Especially when it's a little bit foggy, this place is truly magical.

Photography Tips

Zoom lens is required. Tripod is a must. Filters are optional.

Travel Information

The most important thing to remember is once you park along the side of the road, you must go down to the orchard, the view is much better. However, there are many vantage points along the same road, some that hinder the view of the building through the gorgeous cypresses, and some that reveal the beauty of this red building. I suggest scouting a day before. This is a sunrise spot so there is not much traffic along the road, most will be photographers. You can also at sunset but the mood is totally different, definitely when you are looking for fog.

One word of caution: The dogs will bark but they are usually tied and cannot jump on you. Marieke in the spot comments had a different experience though and got bit, so please be extremely cautious and respectful with the residents. Always imagine you would live there and lots of people would stand there every morning. How would you want them to behave?

Hi, I went there today to scout the place and based on the comment that the dogs bark but won't attack I went to the spot everyone mentioned for the best view. Sure enough within minutes 2 big German dogs came after me and 1 bit me very hard till bleeding. It was an extremely scary situation. Please be extremely careful, since the owner let's the dogs loose and has them biting people...it's crazy. After seeing so many great reviews of the place and where to go, I guess I will not go there in the morning now...If you want to go to the spot everyone is mentioning, you will get attacked by 2 German Shepherds...

Oh wow, that sounds like a horrible experience, so sorry to read about that. Just saw your comment because more photos were added to this spot. I hope you are doing well again! That's definitely not something you want to experience. I just added your experience to the description + activated an overlay on the map. Are these 2 dogs there because it's private property and because you are not allowed to be there? Or are these simply part of the local farm nearby?

As years pass by, more and more photographers, not only lone ones but hordes that come in groups who go as deep into the olive orchards so maybe the owner got fed up and let his dogs loose. When I was there some groups of photographers were much less respectful and went way too deep into the farmer's olive orchards. So sorry to read about the incident and thank you so much Manuel for adding the warning.

Thank you dear Alona for this hint. I will also add another part to the description to be very respectful in this area. I wasn't sure from what I saw on Google Maps if this is private property or not. If I was the owner, I would probably simply take money to access this area :-D

I used a 70-200mm lens to make sure I was a good distance away. I did see signs up to right saying no trespassing past a certain point and people walking right past them.
