Italy Messina Train ferry from Sicily to Italy

This is an experience not to be missed if you are traveling from Sicily to the Italian main land by train. I recommend doing it during the day rather than the night train as I have done it both ways. We left Milazzo by train to Messina then the train loads the carriages onto the train with you on board. The railway line continues onto the ship, The locomotive leaves. . The ship has to sets of rails carrying 8 to 10 carriages. During the 30-45 minute trip you can go up on deck of the ship and watch the crossing. When you arrive at the other end a locomotive with a carriage backs onto the ship and takes you and the carriages off the ship. Amazing!
