One of only a very few examples of these nets that can be found close enough to the shore to be photographed.

Photography Tips

Long exposure works best here, and you should go at low tide for the best composition.

Travel Information

These nets are just off the shore of Malamocco on Lido Island. You can get the 5.1, 5.2 or 1 water bus to Lido Island, then you need to get the A or B road bus to Malamocco which runs every 30 minutes. Suffice to say this is not the easiest spot to get to and there is nothing else here (though there are some great dilapidated fishing huts further south at Pellestrina), so only go here if you want to photograph the fishing nets specifically.

Hi Alona, thanks for your kind words :) I visited Venice in December 2018 so all the photos I uploaded from Venice were from the first week of December. The huts looked pretty permanent to me - perhaps they aren't actually in use during the winter months but I'd be very surprised if they just disappeared. When I was there, there was a long concrete wall that spanned at least 500m along the west side of Pellestrina where fishing boats moored, and the huts were all 100-200m out into the lagoon. There were at least 50 of them, and I had the great fortune to arrive on an afternoon when the lagoon flat calm and reflecting the clouds like a mirror. If it helps, all my shots from Venice are published to Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/search/?sort=date-taken-desc&safe_search=1&tags=venice,italy&user_id=26782864%40N00&view_all=1) and they are all accurately geotagged and dated.

Thank you so much for this great tip and for your marvelous uploads! I have been to Pellestrina this February and search the entire shore (almost) until a local lady told me the fishermen's huts are there only during the fishing season. Can you indicate during which month you photo's have been taken?
