Piazza Duomo, in the center of the island of Ortigia, is considered to be one of the most beautiful baroque piazzas in Sicily.
The Cathedral of Syracuse is the biggest building on the piazza. The building incorporated large parts of an ancient temple dedicated to Athena. Since the 7th century of the conversion has been driven to the church. After the conversions and extensions of the following centuries, the cathedral has a unique architectural form in this mixed picture today.
