Italy Taufers Castle and the Dolomites
First mentioned in the mid-11th century Taufers Castle, a huge medieval fortress that towers on a rock above the village and was built from the early 13th century onwards. The preserved castle complex is a popular film location, providing the setting of the films The Red Violin, and Just Married. It also served as a picturesque backdrop for Roman Polanski's 1967 horror classic The Fearless Vampire Killers.
Photography Tips
A mid-range zoom lens would be helpful. Sunset is probably a great time to photograph this view. In order to catch the best view of the castle with mountains as a backdrop - go to the spot I've indicated on the map, but not too far behind, as the road takes a turn and the castle will be out of view.
Travel Information
There's a bench in the woods, with a view of the castle and the mountains in the background. From the waterfalls parking, just walk southbound, pass the wool museum, and you will find the bench on your left, a few hundred meters beyond the museum.
