This location exceeds all expectations for an abandoned site. It's an absolute gem among lost places and comes highly recommended.

"Pozzo Sanna in Montevecchio is a monumental mining site hidden in a green, quiet valley. For over a century, thousands worked here, making it a significant part of Sardinia's mining history. The site features remnants of its first ore processing plant from 1868 and subsequent structures up to 1936. Named after Giovanni Antonio Sanna, the mine reaches 300 meters deep with an intricate network of tunnels and shafts. At its peak, it employed 450 workers and operated until the late 1980s, primarily extracting lead and galena. Today, it stands abandoned and partially collapsed, with nature reclaiming the area. A tragic incident occurred in 1871 at the nearby Atzuni site, where a water tank collapse killed 11 women and girls. Located in the Cantiere di Ponente of Montevecchio, along the road to Ingurtosu, the site is dangerous and access is not recommended".

Photography Tips

Bring a fast wide angle lens, as well as some others, a tripod and torches, as it will be very dark in some parts.
I also highly recommend a drone. as you'll get absolutely stunning images and videos.

Travel Information

It's very easy to access. Park your car where I marked it, right at the gate. You'll need to walk 800 meters down a gravel path.

Wear long trousers and sturdy shoes. There are sharp stones, glass, and rusty metal everywhere, making it easy to get injured. Be extremely cautious when entering the structures; some are unstable, and a misstep could lead to a fall of 5 to 10 meters. Always watch where you're going, especially on wooden floors.
