Ancient Rome was built on seven hills: the Aventine hill, the Caelian hill, the Capitoline Hill, the Esquiline hill, the Palatine hill, the Quirinal hill and the Viminal hill. The city centre of Rome is still situated on and around these seven hills. This historical centre with - amongst others - the Colosseum, the Forum Romanum, the Campus Martii, the Pantheon, the Theatre of Marcellus, the Fori Imperiali,.. has been selected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its cultural and historical significance and its importance to the collective interests of humanity.
