This view of Manarola is probably one of the most photographed spots in Cinque Terre. It's such a beautiful view with all these colourful buildings. If you haven't been there, this is probably a place you should see and feel once in your lifetime.

Hint: Try to get there in spring or autumn to avoid a bulk of tourists and if you decide to walk along the high coast of Cinque Terre (what you really should do!) the temperatures are maybe not as high as if you would be there in summer.

Photography Tips

A must-have for this spot is a tripod. There is a handrail you could use to stabilize your camera a little bit, but normally all those tourists are shaking it quite a lot. The reason I say that you need a tripod is that the best time to be there is during sunrise/sunset or blue hour (especially from June to September when the sun will illuminate the village) because you get this beautiful contrast between these colorful buildings and the blue of the sky and the ocean. It's also the perfect place for longtime exposures with an ND filter, especially when it's a little bit stormy and the waves smash into the cliffs.

Travel Information

You have to get there by train or on foot if you want to hike from city to city in the Cinque Terre because no cars are allowed. It's usually very crowded even after the day tourists leave. If you want the best spot for this view, you must arrive early and wait.

Hint: Leave your car in Levanto (north of the Cinque Terre - I marked the parking place on the map where I left my car) and get the train to Monterosso (attention: you should look for departures on the web because sometimes they only depart just once every hour). That's the first beautiful town you should see and start your trip. You can walk along the high coast to the other places and it's worth it, but you have to be sporty.

You are welcome dear Rajesh. The funny part about this spot is, that I saw a similar photo from Manarola myself on the web and I immediately loved this view so much, that I couldn't stop thinking about visiting this place myself and well... one year later I was standing there just because of a photo that I saw on the internet... ;-) Hope you will enjoy Manarola as well someday as much as I did.

Yeah this place is definitely so beautiful, but it's also extremely crowded these days because of this. There are similar beautiful villages like Manarola at the coast of Italy which are less touristic.

Awesome shot. I was there about 20 years ago. I didn't get anything like this shot. Most sunrise/sunset shots have color in the sky to make them pop. Obviously this was an overcast day. I love the way you used the clouds to your advantage with the time exposure, along with the water. Also, the blue hour combined with the warmish tones of the town of Manarola created that warm/cool effect in the image. And the saturation looks realistic and not overdone. Bravo! Morosophoto.com

Hey! Sounds great and I wish you a wonderful time over there and hope, that you will it enjoy as much as I did. If the weather is good, I would definitely recommend you to walk the paths that are opened between the villages. Pretty exhausting, but I enjoyed it very much. Feel free to add a photo you take in Manarola to this spot if you took them from this place. I am always curious about others and how their photos look like! :)

You are welcome Dino! I am sure you will have a great time there and if you are a little bit sporty you really should walk the paths that are opened between the cities of the Cinque Terre. Feel free to add your photo to this spot if you have been there!
