Jamaica South Haven Beach in Yallahs, Jamaica
Each year end of July, the Makka Prof Surf tournament takes place at South Haven Beach in Yallahs (parish St. Thomas) about one hour drive east of Kingston. About 20,000 visitors may show up. During the contest, a kind of festival is organized on the beach including the bouncy castle shown.
Photography Tips
The surfers can be conveniently photographed from a cliff about 6 m above sea level. Obviously a telephoto lens, at least 300 mm, is needed. I found the activities on the beach such as the bouncy castle with Hulk equally interesting.
Travel Information
During the contest, the access from the main road is signposted. In July 2015, an entry fee of 500 JA$ was due. There is ample parking.
