Japan Rengeoin Sanjusangendo

Sanjusangendo (三十三間堂, Sanjūsangendō) is the popular name for Rengeo-in, a temple in eastern Kyoto which is famous for its 1001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. The temple was founded in 1164 and rebuilt a century later after the original structure had been destroyed in a fire.

Measuring 120 meters, the temple hall is Japan's longest wooden structure.

Inside the temple's buildings it is forbidden to take photographs. Although no one forces you to leave your camera before entry. So shooting from the hip would be certainly possible for those who want to do that. The atmosphere and respct prevented me from doing it - so I kept shooting just outside. No restrictions there. No Idea about tripods - have not had one.

The best option in all Japanese cities according to my experience is to take a cab. until you are familiar with the city, this is the fastest and easiest option and not that costly.
