Mount Norikura, at 3,026 meters, is a stunning peak on the border of Nagano and Gifu Prefectures in Japan. Known for its panoramic views, diverse alpine flora, and hot springs, it attracts hikers in summer and snow sports enthusiasts in winter. The mountain is part of Chūbu Sangaku National Park, offering a beautiful natural environment year-round.

Photography Tips

Bring a tripod and an ND filter if you want to get the soft cloud movement. there are a lot of nice spots along the way.

Travel Information

You can arrive from Matsumoto by train and bus (you could buy the Kamikochi-Norikura 2-day pass as I did), take the train from Matsumoto (JR station - the trip is not covered by the JR pass) to Kamikochi station, and then take the bus to Norikura Kogen. Once in Norikura, take the second pass that brings you to the base camp and start climbing.
It's very windy.
the climb takes around 2-3 hours - depending on your fitness (Old japanese ladies did it so you can do it too!)
you can't be there at sunrise or sunset, unfortunately, because the last bus leaves early from the base camp and you don't want to miss it.
