Kinkakuji is one of the jewels in the crown of Kyoto's rich medieval culture. This beautiful gold-lacquered pavilion sits perched above an artificial lake that integrates it into the carefully curated landscape gardening, rich in symbolism and Feng Shui traditions. Although this site is one of the most visited in Kyoto, the viewing deck allows for a view of the pavilion unobscured no matter how many visitors there are. The surrounding gardens showcase traditional tea houses and religious structures related to the imperial household.
