Osaka Castle (Osaka-jo) perches on the apex of a tall hill, high above a beautiful and extensive garden complex in the heart of the bustling Japanese metropolis of Osaka in Western Japan. Although the castle itself is a concrete reconstruction of the original structure, its imposing architecture and gleaming golden gargoyles and crests are still an impressive sight.

Photography Tips

The castle has a panoramic view of the city so there are many angles and moods to explore in this location. The gardens include many cherry and plum blossom trees, allowing photographers to blend classic Japanese icons with the castle architecture in Spring. Autumn too is popular with the Japanese maples turning crimson. At dusk, the castle is illuminated.

Travel Information

The castle is easily reached by rail or subway to the Osaka Business Park stations or Osaka-jo Koen stations. Parking is possible at nearby paid carparks for the Osaka Concert Hall but it is still quite a distance to carry gear from the carparks to the castle grounds.

Second picture does not seem like the same spot as shown in the photo. It is also taken with a Drone.

Hi. The photo of Osaka-jo with the purple sunset was taken from a high rise apartment in Morinomiya. Unfortunately I am not able to set separate locations for the two photos so I used the location of the publicly accessible area (the other photo). I hope this helps you.

Thank you for the hint, dear Sean. In this case it would definitely make more sense to have 2 separate spots so that it's easier to know where the photo was actually taken from. If you give me the lat/lng I can split it into a new spot. Or you know what... I will simply enable this feature to split a photo to a separate spot to you asap... makes it easier :-)

Dear Manuel, why don't you add feature to mark both "Target" and "Photo spot"?! Or you can also make it to mark several points in one map. It's just my suggestion!

That's existing already. The purple marker you see on the map is the target while the orange marker is the exact geo-position the photo was taken from. In this case, it's simply 2 separate spots. Yes, they have the same content but they are taken from totally different places and then it makes sense to separate them because the information to get there might be totally different, same about the equipment you need, etc. Or am I misunderstanding your suggestion? :-)
