Kyrgyz Republic Ak-Sai Canyon from Issyk-Kul Lake

Ak-Sai Canyon is one of the most spectacular in the country. It is reminiscent of the Grand Canyon in the USA, but much more detailed with many veins through dried-up river courses. The contrast between the red sandstone and the high snow-capped mountains in the background is breathtaking.

Photography Tips

In order to create new perspectives, I chose the furthest possible perspective of 500mm and took this photo from the edge of Issyk-Kul Lake. A tripod certainly makes sense for stabilization, because you can easily find solid ground here for it.

Travel Information

Marked road signs lead from the main road into the dry riverbed through the canyon to the edge of Issyk-Kul Lake. You should drive with a 4x4 car and let the air pressure out of the tires in order to drive over the sometimes very soft sandy ground without any problems.
