Kyrgyz Republic Shazka Canyon (Fairytale Canyon)

There are several canyons along the Issyk-Kul region, with Shazka Canyon being one of the better known. It is worth a stop because it is easy to reach and the sediments are extremely colorful at dawn and dusk. The structures that nature has created here are impressive.

As the canyon is popular with locals, you should use the off-peak times in the morning or evening.

A top down gives you a good overview of the different structures and color variability. As always, make sure the drone has a secure connection, the local winds and that you have a flying license with you.

A sandy road leads off the main road to the marked parking lot. A 4x4 car is also recommended here. Once you arrive at the parking lot, it is only a few meters to the canyon and you can walk through it in about 1-2 hours to see almost every corner. As the canyon has a slippery surface due to the fine sediments, you should wear the right shoes with adequate grip.
