Kyrgyz Republic Camping in Sary-Jaz region near the Kazakstan border
Over small, stony, unimproved roads along the border with Kazakhstan into the remote countryside. There are various places here where you can enjoy the scenery completely alone and in peace. Due to the lack of artificial light sources, there are wonderful views of the Milky Way at night.
Photography Tips
Don't forget your tripod. Use a wide angle. Be sure to use the lowest aperture your lens will allow. Adjust the ISO depending on the aperture. Expose stars for a maximum of 20 seconds, otherwise their movement will blur them. Turn off the stabilization on the lens.
Travel Information
Located off the beaten path you need to have a really good 4x4 car for this spot. It is so important to have an experienced driver who knows the area. You should also always make sure you have enough fuel (extra canister) and all the tools you need to get yourself out of the mud if you get stuck.
You can camp anywhere on site or ask the few individual nomads if you can spend the night there.
As you will pass two military posts, you will need a special permit for the area, which you must apply for in advance from the government or a tourism provider!
