Morocco Hassan II Mosque
Six thousand Moroccan artisans worked for five years to create abundant and beautiful mosaics, stone and marble floors and columns, sculpted plaster mouldings, and carved and painted wood ceilings. The exterior surfaces of the mosque display titanium, bronze, and granite finishes. The prayer hall is built on a rectangular plan of 660 feet long and 330 feet wide with three naves perpendicular to the qibla (side toward Mecca) wall. In the basement are many fountains for washing before prayer.
Photography Tips
Good to get there early as there are many people. The mosque is so large that it is possible to avoid many of the people. Make sure to visit the basement. A fast lens is nice for interior shots.
Travel Information
Make sure to visit the park near the El Hank Lighthouse to capture the mosque from across the water. The mosque was built on the water as "God's throne is on the water".
