Myanmar Goldener Felsen in Myanmar

English: The Golden Rock in Myanmar is located on a mountain near the small town of Kyaikto in Mon State. It is considered a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists and also an important tourist destination.
According to legend, the rock is only held in balance by two of Buddha's hairs, so that it does not fall down. On top of the rock is a stupa, the 5.5-metre Kyaiktiyo Pagoda. Under the pagoda is said to be the hair, protected by a reliquary. The rock has a coating of gold leaf. Pilgrims bring gold leaf leaves to stick on the sacred rock. It is gilded to a height of about two metres. Women are not allowed to touch the shrine.

German: Der Goldene Fels in Myanmar liegt auf einem Berg bei dem Städtchen Kyaikto im Mon-Staat. Er gilt als Wallfahrtsort für Buddhisten und auch als wichtiges Touristenziel.
Der Legende nach wird der Fels nur von zwei Haaren Buddhas im Gleichgewicht gehalten, sodass er nicht herunterfällt. Auf dem Felsen befindet sich ein Stupa, die 5,5 Meter lange Kyaiktiyo-Pagode. Unter der Pagode soll sich das Haar befinden, das von einem Reliquienschrein geschützt ist. Der Fels hat eine Beschichtung aus Blattgold. Die Pilger bringen Blattgoldblättchen mit, die sie an den heiligen Felsen kleben. Er ist bis in etwa zwei Meter Höhe vergoldet. Frauen dürfen das Heiligtum nicht berühren.

Best time is to be there for sunset and stay into the late night hours. After sunset the hustle and bustle of the day changes into a wonderful devotional and spiritual atmosphere.

Cars and travel coaches are only allowed until the foot of the mountain and there you have to enter trucks with benches on the open loading area, which then take you up the mountain to the plateau, alternatively there is still a cable car.
