Myanmar Bagan Plain
Bagan Plain sits along a sweeping bend in the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar. Long years of peaceful Buddhist rule allowed kings to decorate the plain with pagodas and stupa. Architecture from this period stretches as far as the eye can see.
Photography Tips
Most photographers go for the brilliant sunsets facing a dramatic Western skyline, shot from the top steps of the taller pagodas. The sunrise however incorporates mists rising, creating a dramatic and mystical ambiance. Climb a pagoda to get elevation on the plain but don't forget to remove your shoes before climbing on to the pagoda as a mark of respect to the culture.
Travel Information
Bagan is reached by train or flight from Yangon. Access to the plain has parking but a bicycle or scooter is a better mode. Most of the roads are sand.
