The old royal city of Mandalay is the second largest city of Myanmar and capital of the region of the same name.
Due to the large number of temples, monasteries and pagodas in the region, as well as the high importance of these religious buildings, Mandalay can be called the spiritual and cultural center of Myanmar. Mandalay is located in the heart of Myanmar directly on the Irrawaddy River, about 716 kilometers north of Yangon. A peculiarity of the traditional handicraft city of Mandalay is that the districts are divided into handicraft guilds. In the south of the city, for example, there are gold, silver and marble workshops, in the west they tend to process wood and so on.
