Namibia Road towards Spitzkoppe
Spitzkoppe, often called the "Matterhorn of Namibia," is a striking group of bald granite peaks in the Namib Desert, about 120 kilometers northeast of Swakopmund. Rising dramatically from the flat surrounding plains, the highest peak stands 1,728 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking vistas and a surreal landscape.
Photography Tips
I used my 70-200 telephoto lens to take this photo and waited for another car to pass. Once the car is at a good distance, it adds a significant scale to your image. Viewers get a better sense of the height of the mountains!
Travel Information
Driving on gravel roads in Namibia is a quintessential part of exploring this beautiful country. It offers access to its most remote and breathtaking landscapes. However, it requires specific preparation and awareness to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey. A 4WD vehicle is highly recommended for driving on Namibia’s gravel roads, especially if you plan to venture into remote areas. While a 2WD car can manage many routes, a 4WD provides better stability and control on loose and uneven surfaces.
