On the drive to Sossusvlei, visitors pass Dune 45, which owes its name to the fact that it is 45 kilometres from the park entrance at Sesriem. Dune 45 is about 170 metres high and graces many a photo with the neighbouring bony trees. Close to Dune 45 is the Sossusport viewpoint. From here, visitors enjoy a unique view of the surrounding landscape consisting of dunes, river valleys and mountains.
