New Zealand Fantail Falls
This is one of several waterfalls along the Haast Highway and is characterized by multiple cairns built along the riverside and even on logs as in this photo.
Photography Tips
This is a popular site with the tourists so arrive early if you want privacy and freedom to choose your composition. Use a polarizer to achieve the color saturation and/or a neutral density filter to slow down the shutter speed to show the effect of water flowing in the falls.
Travel Information
This site is on the north side of the Haast Highway and well sign-posted with good parking. It is a very short walk through the forest to the riverside and may require wading through the water to reach the bank in high water.
