New Zealand Reflection Point (Lake Matheson)
This spot has already been covered but deserves some further discussion as it is a classical New Zealand photograph with Mounts Cook and Tasman reflecting on Lake Matheson,
Photography Tips
Arrive very early! There are three viewpoints. Going clockwise there is Reflection Point, View of Views and the Jetty Viewpoint. Each offers differing views and demand arriving early otherwise you won't have long to shoot without being asked to move. The sun rises ahead and to your left and for the best light it should be before sunrise and when the water is still calm.
Travel Information
The only way to arrive here early enough is to stay at Fox Glacier. Turn west on Cook Flat Rd. and follow the sign posts to the parking lot which is very large and features stores etc. which speak of the popularity of this site. It is heavily touristed so arrive very early to beat the crowds. It takes at least 30 minutes to walk to the first photography viewpoint and almost an hour for the entire route so take that into consideration.
